Terms of Employment

 

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with a Principal endorsement or equivalent administrative endorsement is required (formerly Type 75 certification). 
  2. Must be endorsed in the Educator Licensure Information System (ELIS) to evaluate certified staff. 
  3. License endorsement(s) held in the division content area of Social Science.
  4. Ability to model high levels of character, integrity, best practices in teaching, appropriate professional demeanor, interactions, and conduct.
  5. 5 years of successful teaching experience.
  6. Strong background in department or building leadership is preferred.
  7. Communicate effectively with students, community, staff, and administration. 
  8. The ability to come to work on a regular basis and to be timely.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Teaching and Learning:

  1. Provide primary leadership in teaching and learning for all members of the division.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of and expertise in appropriate effective instructional techniques, classroom management, professional interactions, and professional responsibilities.     
  3. Promote and assist in the professional development of all division members.
  4. Provide leadership in the development and implementation of curriculum.
  5. Serve as a curriculum committee member to ensure alignment with course goals, division goals, district goals, and school board goals. 
  6. Oversee and support instructional assessment by creating and analyzing common assessments.  

Leadership:

  1. Evaluate staff as assigned using the district evaluation methods and protocols. 
  2. Oversee and support instructional staff through the MCHS Student Growth model procedures and processes. 
  3. Evaluate assistant division chairs as assigned. 
  4. Work with the Principal to screen, interview, and hire staff.
  5. Assist with orientation and process of mentorship of new department members.
  6. Work with the Principal to create annual division staffing plans.
  7. Work with assistant divisionals to oversee annual department budget.

Communication:

  1. Provide leadership in the articulation with other departments and feeder schools. 
  2. Assist in the appropriate placement of incoming and current students.  
  3. Provide for divisional representation at orientation events as requested. 
  4. Serve as initial facilitator for the resolution of divisional issues.
  5. Work with assistant division chairs to organize and conduct all PLC meetings during the school year.  

Other duties as assigned.  

 

 

Physical Requirements:

  1. Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time. 
  2. Ability to move freely and perform duties in numerous locations throughout the day (involving the ability to stoop, bend, and reach as needed). 
  3. Ability to occasionally move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials. 
  4. Exposure to noise and activity of a school setting.
