Qualifications:

  1. Issued Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an LBS1 (K-12) endorsement is preferred. Staff with School Counselor, School Social Worker, School Psychologist, or Speech Language Pathologist endorsement may be considered depending on experience. 
  2. Principal endorsement or equivalent endorsement is preferred.
  3. Four years of successful special education teaching is preferred.
  4. Strong organizational and time management skills
  5. Ability to work effectively with community stakeholders, agencies, staff, parents, and students

 

Responsibilities / Duties:

 

General Responsibilities:

  1. Must perform all responsibilities in a professional manner consistent with district policy and practices.
  2. Ensure compliance with special education laws and mandates.
  3. Coordinate services, placements, and compliance, and serve as the LEA Representative at special education meetings to ensure the accuracy of special education paperwork.
  4. Assist in overseeing special education resource programming district-wide. 
  5. Serve as a case manager as needed.
  6. Schedule, coach, and provide professional development for Instructional Assistants.
  7. Coordinate current contracted related services, personnel, and programming as needed for students.
  8. Assist with developing, implementing, and evaluating FBA/BIP’s, compliance, best practices, student goal-setting, parental communication, academic and behavior interventions, etc.
  9. Provide for department representation at orientation events as requested.
  10. Train appropriate staff on the utilization of the special education student management system (i.e. Embrace) program in areas of IEPs.
  11. Assist in the coordination of Extended School Year.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

Special Education Coordinator - Position 1:

  1. Assigned to the Upper Campus
  2. Oversee Resource Programming across the District
  3. Support Special Education students and teachers in grades 10-12 and serve as the primary point of contact.
  4. Up to 15 summer days as assigned.

 

Physical Requirements:

  1. Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time. 
  2. Ability to move freely and perform duties in numerous locations throughout the day (involving the ability to stoop, bend, and reach as needed). 
  3. Ability to occasionally move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials. 
  4. Exposure to noise and activity of a school setting.
